A topic was recently posted on the Fraction Magazine discussion board: In 50 words or less, describe the current state of contemporary photography. (Something else you don’t know about David Bram – he likes to stir the pot.)
I was interested to read the responses, but I was really distraught at how negative and defeatest they were. Truly, it was a shit show. A good 90% of the posts complained that the photography market is over-saturated with work and that every image these days is boring, conventional, meaningless and craftless. You are hurting my heart, people.
And so I felt I must defend this art I love so much. . .
I think all you need is to look at the work that LUCEO is doing with photojournalism and in their personal work (see our current show – Escape by Kendrick Brinson and David Walter Banks) or the soulful work of Lisette deBoisblanc, whose show will open next week, to see that there is life and innovation and a lot of talent out there.

I agree, there is a lot of talent out there, it just takes longer for the cream to rise to the top. To much bad ‘cholesterol’.
Nicely said Jennifer, and what a good way to boost your karma meter too! There is enough artistic love to go around for everyone and luckily for us, (people in general) our opinions differ, thereby making variety even more desirable.
